In a study just released, Rebecca H. Johnson, M.D. (Seattle Washington – Oncologist) discovers a disturbing rise in estrogen receptor positive breast cancer in younger women (age 25 to 39). The findings were published in JAMA. The E3N French Cohort Study (also on our Research page) shows that natural progesterone may be cancer protective. I believe there may be an environmental connection. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a polymerizing agent commonly found in plastics that has been linked to xenoestrogenic activity. Assuming that the young women in the study are active and physically fit, I could extrapolate that they are like those I see everyday, carrying a plastic bottle of water for hydration – many of whom use the same bottle time and time again. Could the invasion of xenoestrogenic compounds be a contributing factor? Women of all ages should check to be sure their estrogen and progesterone remains in balance. There is a another paper published in our Research Section called Progesterone after Hysterectomy. This article, too, should shed light on this topic. Some doctors believe that progesterone is not necessary if you’ve had a hysterectomy. Progesterone after hysterectomy counters that belief. The Advanced Rise of Breast Cancer in Younger Women is a concern. We must try to understand the origins and potential remedies. Breast cancer treatment has made great progress. Consider if we could prevent it by keeping estrogen and progesterone in balance throughout life. PDF
